Pay attention to the start and end days of counting as they vary by site and year. For a list of begin and end count dates for each year by site, click here to download the adult metadata (see the table at the end of the document under 'Data available').
For the current year, some of the sites are several days behind in reporting, but are reported by the COE as zero, so when zeros appear in current year data, the data should be considered as "not yet reported".
Willamette Falls counts for: Chinook, Steelhead, and Coho only. Also, summer Chinook are not counted at Willamette Falls Dam.
Shad are not counted at Willamette Falls, The Dalles, John Day, Lower Monumental, Little Goose, Rock Island, Rocky Reach and Wells Dams. Additionally, shad are typically not counted at any of the Corps dams after August 31 each year and shad are not counted at all Corps dams.
Unclipped steelhead are a subset of steelhead. Unclipped steelhead are counted separately from hatchery steelhead at Corps dams on the Columbia and Snake Rivers. Unclipped steelhead are identified as fish with an intact adipose fin. However, a small number of hatchery fish may not have had their adipose fin removed.
Bull trout are now being counted as a target species starting March 2019. From March 2019 through April 2019, COE counted the bull trout. From May 6, 2019 to the present day, an adult count contractor is counting and reporting the adult dam count data. Prior to March 2019, bull trout were counted as incidental fish counts.
